Supermarket standoff leaves one dead

AP Los Angeles

About two hours before taking the hostages, police say the man shot his grandmother seven times and wounded another woman, who he forced into a car. Police chased the vehicle and exchanged gunfire with the man, who crashed into a pole outside the Trader Joe’s in the city’s Silver Lake section and ran inside.

Trader Joe’s!

Frightened customers and workers dove for cover as police bullets fired at the suspect shattered the store’s glass doors.

Yikes! I’ve made a lot of mistakes that I should pay for, but craving Pumpkin Joe-Joe’s shouldn’t be one of them.

Outside the store, the man exchanged gunfire with police again and (a) woman was shot and killed, Moore said. It was not clear if she died from police gunfire or was killed by the gunman. (Spoilers: police shot her)

And…

“Those bullets went right over the back of me as he was running right down the main aisle,” Kohles said. He was terrorized as he lay on the floor and others around him sobbed.

What I’m taking away from this article is that LAPD care more about shooting the bad guy than whether or not they shoot bystanders. Surly, the Mayor will assure us that police officers were in the wrong and will show more constraint in the future.

“The heroism that was shown today was second to none and the teams that were able to respond, secure the perimeter and engage in conversation with the suspect no doubt saved lives today,” (Mayor Eric Garcetti) said, adding “our hearts go out to everyone who has been traumatized.”

Heroes! Thoughts and prayers!

Well… there’s always next time a gunman enters a supermarket in his city.

‘Please don’t let my baby die’: Mother holds 10-year-old as she dies following shooting at D.C. apartment complex

Washington Post

Masked men…

exited a black Infiniti, police said, and opened fire indiscriminately, showering so many shots into the courtyard that one resident said there were “too many to count.” The crowd of about 15 or 20 people scattered in terror.

Let’s call this what it is: terrorism.

Makiyah Wilson, a 10-year-old heading to an ice cream truck, was hit, apparently in the chest, residents said. Two witnesses said the girl’s mother held her child as she cried, again and again: “Please don’t let my baby die.”

She’ll never have a first day of middle school.

In a year when homicides in the District are up 46 percent over 2017 and gunfire has become all too common in some neighborhoods, the killing of Makiyah stood out. She was described as a “cool little girl” who loved art and puzzles.

A well-regulated militia.

The couple live on Ronald Reagan Drive, where police said they found heroin, marijuana cookies and gummy bears, and six firearms. Victoria Everett ran “Tori’s Playhouse,” out of the home police said.

“We don’t have any information that would lead up to believe any children, uh, got their hands on an of this stuff at all,” said Lt. Douglas Nicolosi,

Unlike these.
